Dear Lord Burns,

Re. Wigtownshire Hunt

The Wigtownshire Hunt ceased around 1990 for financial reasons. I understand that some of the submissions which you have received may infer that the Wigtownshire Hunt continued with equestrian or social activities after the Hunt itself was disbanded. I have to say that on the cessation of hunting all activities of the Hunt ended. The only ongoing activity was our annual Country Fair, which continued as a fund-raising activity for charity. Unfortunately however once the hunt ceased it proved impossible to sustain the enthusiasm of the Country Fair committee, and this also ceased after two years.

Due to the end of hunting locally there has been a marked decline in all horse-related activities, and indeed our local blacksmith has left and gone to work elsewhere.

I hope this information sets the record straight, and as a Joint-Master at the relevant time I can vouch for its accuracy.

Yours sincerely,

John A Calvert.
